They have won almost all of their matches as a team. The team has practices every week but not on Fridays. The practices are at the Donner Park tennis courts. Last year the team wasn’t as big as it is this year. The Tennis Team is getting bigger and bigger! 2014-2015 Girls Tennis Players

All the girls already can't wait for next season to start! |
The Lacrosse Organization
By: Avery Larson, Sports Reporter Columbus IN- Mr. Andrew Jerman saw that Columbus did not have a lacrosse program in the area and decided to start up a lacrosse team a couple years ago. There was only about fifteen kids that came out and I was one of them. At first, I did not like it, but after a few practice it was awesome. This sport takes a lot of work. Lacrosse is a unique sport and Mr. Jerman thought it would be great for local teenagers to have a team in Columbus. After a couple of years of building a high school team, they made a middle school team. Mr. Manuel, a social studies teacher for CSAM8 is the coach for the team. This year they added a team for both Columbus North and East. Lacrosse is a spring sport so it can be played in every condition. Bad weather just makes it harder to play, but also more fun. This organization has been very popular and there are new kids joining each practice. There is drop-in practices every Monday from 6:30 to 7:30pm, where anyone interested in learning about lacrosse can just drop-in! So each Monday the organization is growing. It is at Donner Park. It is just left of the pool and north of the basketball court in the huge open field. Aidan Cole said this, “I like more and more people coming out and working with every age group.” So come out and give lacrosse a try. It is great! Chargers Pound Panthers
By: Collin Phillips, Sports Reporter Monday night, the Central Chargers hosted the Jennings County Panthers at Columbus East High School for the Tri-County Championship. The Panthers came into this game 4-0. The Chargers were heading in 6-1. The Chargers won 60 to 6, Daveed Jolley ran for four touchdowns. Dalton Back, Lance Greiwe, and Adam Chapman also ran for touchdowns. Cole Gilley threw for two touchdown passes, to Thorne Ross and Mitch Collier. Seth Chandler, Greiwe, Jolley, Chapman and Collier all added 2 pt conversions. Defensively, Zerek Greathouse finished with two sacks. “Winning the Tri County Football Championship is great for our coaches, student-athletes and school. However, the most important thing is the way our football team worked with a specific goal and purpose-taking one game at a time, and, being prepared!! This was obvious in the couple of games that our guys, and girl, came from behind, persevered and won!!” said Central principal, Mr.Gratz. “You guys have been working harder than anyone. You all have been working hard since July 7th, before the school year even started. Your school year started before anybody elses. They all were sitting at home or running around at water parks. I bet you all would have rather e than here. But you weren’t, you were here working non-stop. That’s why you made it here,” said 7th grade football coach ,Justin Denny, before Monday's game. Finishing Fast: A Look Inside Cross Country at Central
Archit Malik: Sports Reporter Columbus, Indiana- On October 2nd at 7pm the Central Middle School Cross Country Team ended their season at Bedford. The team did great. They all went hard and fast and finished their season proudly. Wednesday, October 1st, after school was the last practice of 2014 Central Middle School Cross Country season. We started off with off with the regular, then Coach Friedgood started to talk to us about Bedford. He reminded us that the varsity boys would have to get their own ride or they would miss their race. He said that this will be a hard race and a longer run than the races we have had. They only other meet as long as this one was the tri-county meet, so we had to be ready. After we came back from the Donner loop coach made us do 8 strides, which is basically running 800 meters. After we finished that coach made us go to the back of the school. For basically 5 minutes we just stood there, then he made us run towards a corner and BOOM... A pile of whip cream comes flying at me. The eighth grade girls put whip cream all over us. They were always talking about banana splits, but I thought that was a banana split party, not the idea of making us into banana splits!! Thursday the bus arrived when the varsity boys were doing a warmup lap and getting ready for their race. The first race was the boys varsity race which were the top 7 boys from each team. Then the next race was the girls varsity race, after the boys race ended. Then it was the boys and girls JV race. A few minutes after the JV race was the award ceremony. In the award ceremony three people’s names were called from boys varsity in 13th place was Zane Gruwell, for girls varsity in 25th place was Jeniffer Kang, and in 7th place from girl’s JV, Hannah. Not everybody's name was called in the ceremony but everybody left with their head’s high. Eighth graders knew this was their last year as a Central cross country runner and the seventh graders ended looking forward for the next year. |
