CSA's Voice box results
By: Merrick Goen , Voice box reporter Columbus, Indiana- Central middle school’s CSA 7th graders have been doing a project for students called “The voice box”. The voice box is a box that is placed in each room with pieces of paper next to it. The pieces of papers make you justify what mood you’re in, what’s the problem or what is making you feel that way. We make sure that we keep it anonymous so nobody knows who you are. For our 2nd week most of our results were about homework. 3 people were happy about homework saying that they liked the study hall in connections. 2 people wrote saying that they were angry and frustrated because, some CSA students were spreading rumors and creating drama. 12 people were happy in school because: we are making a newspaper, they like study halls, teachers are being nice, the CSA students being helpful, and a couple people like our community partner projects. I as a CSA student think we should do something about this to help these people. So this includes our 2nd week Voice box results! |
CSA’s Mentors Project
By: Jolene England, News Reporter Columbus, Indiana- Central Middle School’s CSA7 Team is doing a project where they meet with different professionals from the local area from all walks of life. These professionals will act as mentors and talk to the students about their interests, setting lifelong goals and discuss the paths one can take to be successful in life. They have had their first meeting on September 18th and they took that time to get to know each other and share life stories. The teacher that started this project is Mrs. Fischvogt, CSA Algebra teacher. She emailed all of the Mentors to see what time they had to visit and see if they could actually come a see the CSA 7th graders. The other teacher that helped set up everything are Mr. Steele, Mr. Prohl, and Mrs. Mihay. They are the teachers to thank for this project. Students believe that the Mentors are the ones to thank because they spent their time that they would’ve used for work, but instead they used it to come visit the CSA 7th Graders at Central Middle School. “My Mentor was a Volunteer Service Person and it was really fun because what she talked about was interesting,” says Parker Green. She can’t wait until the next meeting in December when she can talk to her mentor again about what is going on in life. There will be a next meeting in December so that the students can catch up with their mentors and what has happened in those months that have passed. The students are most excited for that meeting because they finally get to meet up with their Mentor again. |
Is school Too Long?
By: Cole Medve, Investigative Reporter
Columbus, IN - Central Middle School (CMS) students are not staying awake in class and are not paying attention. They say they do that because school is way too long and they get bored after being in school for most of the day. For school to be not long the school principal can only take away lunch, but that would barely take away an hour. They also said they might be able to take away ONE class from everyone’s schedule, which that would make the school day only 6 hours. The bad thing about doing that is some people like school, and kids will get hungry because they can't eat breakfast. Food also helps kids think. Other students said that they should just have to do their common core classes, instead of having extra classes. So next week we will be doing a survey on how many students like and don't like this idea. After hearing from all of these kids, I believe that this theory won’t go far, but you never know.

Is Lunch too Early For CSA Students and Teachers?
By: Parker Green, Fashion Artist
Columbus, IN - At Central Middle School, some CSA teachers and students believe that they have lunch too early. Some CSA Students and one teacher were interviewed. Their lunch starts at 10:45 am. Even one of the teachers refers to it as "brunch." Five students out of eight thought they had lunch too early. Two students thought it was too late.
The final one student thought it was perfect. After school people are hungry when they go home. Only one student is not hungry when they go home. If we had lunch in the afternoon and we go home in the afternoon, we wouldn’t be hungry. That just saves more food at home.
Children would not be hungry until dinner time. That way they don’t refuse dinner and won’t starve. Ryana Hardin was interviewed and she thinks we have lunch too early also. “We should have lunch later, like 12:00,”says Ryana Hardin-CSA Student.
